Spotting A Fake Soccer Jersey |
|
|
Too many fans have been scammed by shoddy individuals/companies pushing fake products. They are everywhere. It’s made the news. And with the recent 2010 FIFA World Cup completed, these stores are popping up online like a bad virus just waiting to make a quick buck. Here, take a look what these fraudsters try and do:
So we're going to cut the crap and tell it like it is so you know how to avoid these cash sucking parasites infesting the Internet.
Firstly, if you want to buy a fake, knock yourself out. Our team is passionate about football and won’t settle for anything less. They don’t buy fake soccer boots, fake computers or fake cars. They spend good money on quality products.
After purchasing authentic products (see pictures below) and comparing them to knock-offs, this experience did not leave a question in our mind authentic products are superior in every way and certainly the way to go if you are passionate about your club.
The old saying “you get what you pay for” is Gospel in this case.
Now let’s get to the imposters.
You can tell you’re about to be scammed by:
- Ridiculous pricing. If you see an acclaimed “authentic” for $15 – run. No discussions.
- Poor quality finish (uneven / atrocious stitching).
- Doesn’t have the ‘weighty” feel of an authentic shirt
- Poor/incorrect coloring (some get the colors completely wrong).
- Some threading throughout the shirt; inside and out.
- Badges/patches/logos poorly finished/blurred/crack and/or misspelled (lame, we know)
- Sizes on tags and collar don't match (E.g.: Tag says Large, collar says Medium).
- Starts to fall apart after a few washes.
- Totally bogus sizes, i.e.: AA or AAA = FAKE

You obviously don’t want to get to the stage of already having ordered it (sucker!). So the easiest and fastest way for the untrained eye to spot one online is the first point – ridiculous pricing. Nobody in their right mind will sell an authentic product that goes for $60-$100 for $10 unless they are selling you junk.
Here are some pre-buying tips:
- DO. NOT. BUY. FROM. THAILAND – Huge mistake. Don’t believe the BS they are directly from the manufacturer’s factory. They’re not. With thousands of fake peddlers going around for every decent one in Asia, you assume 100% risk. Stick with trusted, credible companies who run honest businesses.
- Avoid E-Bay as much as possible. We realize there are some real deals there and some seasoned experts can hunt them very well. However it’s simply not worth the average fan’s time (and headache) pouring over the listings with the question “is it real?!” constantly eating at their minds. Nor did we have the appetite to go through a bloody auction. It’s a SHIRT so just shop around with credible stores! (Can you feel our frustration at those who waste hours/days trying to save $15?)
- Avoid Individual Sellers: We don’t doubt there are good people out there. We just don’t trust those we know nothing about. We don’t even trust feedback scores (easily faked). In fact, unless you have been buying from a trusted seller for a while and know what you’re doing, chances are you will be burned sooner or later.
Look at it this way: Say you find what appears to be a good deal from a seller halfway across the globe. They may very well be legitimate. For peace of mind, you then check with a reputable online store and see the same item for only $20 more. You are however 100% guaranteed it’s authentic and the company stands behind it. When you factor in international shipping and the niggling doubt of what you’re really getting from that seller – is it really worth it?
- Comparison shop trusted stores. We’ve made that easier for you by reviewing and grading the top four stores we found to be the best places to shop. Three clicks and you have any item to compare across three trusted stores. Since these stores also run their own sales, you can quite easily pick up great bargains. Check the Specials page or let us know if you’d like details on private sales (register to the left sidebar).
